Deciding on how to best display some of your treasured artwork can be a challenge. This client had several family prints of beautiful fans from their time in Japan. After having them framed and matted very simply, the stairwell looking down into the living room seemed the best choice.
Since the middle wall is the smallest just three prints were hung there. The design tip for the side walls is to always use a different shaped object in the center to provide visual interest. In this case we used a diamond shaped Madonna mounted on wood and a square mirror turned sideways as the center focal point for the prints. All the prints are equally spaced and hung with reference to the light fixture. Note: Plan two or three layouts and nail once, especially in a stairwell! As a bonus, we had two prints left over to hang with the groupings on either side of the fireplace in the living room below. The groupings are asymmetric in style but beautifully set off the over-sized mirror and furniture layout. The treasured prints have found their perfect home and the homeowner couldn't be happier!
